Circular No:-17                                                                                                                           Date:-07-09-2010

To

The District/ Branch Secretaries.

Dear Comrades,

At the outset the Circle Union congratulates and conveys Red Salute to all of you for organizing a Historic Strike on 7th September, 2010, which the Country will ever remember. The Strike became successful due to the heartiest effort and excellent participation of Executives, Non Executives, Casual/ Contract workers and Retired employees.

During last two months the District and Branch Unions were engaged to hold meetings, seminars, conventions and demonstration programmes at the call of Joint Action Committee. More than 10,000 employees (including regular and Casual/Contractual workers) were busy with the preparation of 7th September, 2010 strike. The Circle Secretary along with other Circle Office Bearers has attended number of preparatory campaign programes throughout the State of West Bengal.

On the day of the strike i.e. on 7th September, 2010 it is observed that,

a)      In spite of uninterrupted Local/Express Train and Metro rail services not a single employee including Officers like GM etc has turned up for duty in any BSNL Office/Exchanges throughout the State.

b)      In most of the BSNL Establishments the striking employees at the call of State JAC has organised picketing and in some areas they took out Rallies of BSNL Workers in support of Strike.

c)      The strike was by and large peaceful throughout the state. It is highly significant to note that starting from a small exchange in the hills of Darjeeling to the biggest offices like CGMT WBT and CTO the employees have gathered in a good number. Our Comrades in Four disturbed districts e.g. Purulia, Bankura, West Medinipur (including Jangalmahal, Lalgarh and Jhargram) and East Medinipur (including Nandigram, Contai, Tamluk) fought tooth and nail and made the strike a grand success.

d)      A large number of employees with all enthusiasm have gathered in the BSNL Offices/ Exchanges of Asansol, Durgapur, Burdwan, Birbhum, Kolkata and adjacent areas. In North Bengal and Sikkim (i.e. Gangtok, Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri and Siliguri) amidst of heavy downfall our employees came to their offices for picketing and demonstration programme. The comrades of Krishnagar, Berhampore, Malda and Raiganj have also played their vital role to organize the One Day Strike successful.

e)      The Nine (9) District Unions of Kolkata have been able to assemble more than 500 striking employees to their work spots. The striking employees have participated in day long Picketing Programme, Rallies and Demonstrations in front of the gates of their respective Office/Exchange.

f)       The leaders and supporters of other unions like AIC&CWF, AIBDPA, SNEA, AIBSNLEA, NUBSNLW (FNTO) and NFTE BSNL have also extended all sorts of cooperation to make the strike successful.

It is needless to mention that we have completed only one phase of our Trade Union Action on 7th September, 2010. Comrades, let us begin with the new phase and make the Authority as well as the UPA Government understand that no other force is stronger than the Unity of the Working Class and with the  help of the unity and continuous  struggle of the working class we can reach our destination.

With this determination prepare yourself for the next.

                    With warm greetings,

                                                                                                                               Comradely yours,

Sd/-
