Sub: Filling up of the vacant posts in the cadre of Telecom Mechanic in almost all SSAs.

Dear Sir,

Perhaps you are aware that in most of our SSAs vacancies in the cadre of Telecom Mechanic are available but qualified and trained officials are not available. On the other hand at least in Asansol and Kolkata there are vacancies and trained candidates but posts could not be filled up since officials to be promoted do not like posting at a distant place having two establishments in two places.

Kindly also note that a considerable number of Group-D officials are available in many a SSA who could not get the chance of sitting for the entrance test for Phone Mechanic since they were not recruited before the Test was held. They are mostly compassionate appointees or regularised from Casual labours. There are some candidates who could not qualify earlier.

Moreover most of the Phone Mechanics are going to appear for the Test of TTA. So obviously a good number of additional vacancies will also be created in the cadre of Phone Mechanic consequent upon their promotion to the cadre of TTA.

At this backdrop we understand that you will feel it necessary to take up the matter with appropriate authority at BSNL H.Q. so that a Test for the cadre of Phone Mechanic can be held in near future to avoid the problem of inadequacy of Phone Mechanic in our Circle who are actually responsible for day to day maintenance of our Telecom Network. This is most urgent .
