Nothing to rejoice for NFTE-FNTO

 

The result of IV-Verification has come out. This is a clear and decisive verdict of 2,48,278  non-executive employees of BSNL. It is in favour of United Forum led by BSNL Employees Union. It is firmly against proposed IPO/ Disinvestment of BSNL, VRS/CRS, calculated move of all sorts of vested interests to weaken BSNL, all the more the verdict is against the neo-liberal economic policies of the central government. The verdict is a total rejection of the dilly dallying attitude of the management of BSNL towards settlement of genuine and legitimate demands of the employees. At the same time the wrong, anti-worker and pro-management collaborationist policies and activities pursued by NFTE and FNTO for several decades have once again been totally rejected by the cross section of the employees. Finally, it is a verdict vindicating the correct policies pursued by BSNLEU from its inception 8 years back, viz. STRUGGLE FOR UNITY, UNITY FOR STRUGGLE, UNITY & STRUGGLE FOR ADVANCEMENT along with the programme of SERVE THE NATION, SERVE THE PEOPLE, FIGHT FOR RIGHTS AND SPREAD THE MESSAGE OF SUSTAINED STRUGGLE AGAINST WRONG POLICIES OF GOVERNMENT AND MANAGEMENT. We convey warm greetings to the BSNL employees for their strong and staunch support for the right policies.

 

However, NFTE-FNTO combine is trying to present a brave front by telling that they have got 38.35% votes. Is it their advancement or decline? The figures of successive verifications will speak the truth.

Before analyzing the results, it is to be remembered that all the four major Unions fought the 1st Verification independently. FNTO was in United Forum with BSNLEU during 2nd and 3rd Verifications, thereafter aligned with NFTE in 4th Verification. BSNLMS(BTEF) aligned with NFTE in 3rd Verification without being an applicant union. There was a split in it thereafter. Newly formed BTEU (affiliated to BMS) declared that it would contest the 4th Verification independently. However in many Circles it had aligned with NFTE-FNTO. BSNLMS(BTEF) joined United Forum.

 

After 1st Verification, NFTE got recognition and formed Councils at all levels with only 35.25% votes. Our demand for recognition as second Union with 29.99% votes was rejected by the management.

 

In 2nd and 3rd Verifications, United Forum acquired first position with 49.25% and 56.97% votes respectively and got recognition and formed Councils at all levels. In current 4th Verification United Forum retained its first position with 49.97% votes. Doubts are being cast through malicious campaign by disgruntled forces, whether BSNLEU/ United Forum would get recognition with less(!) than 50% (i.e. 49.97%) votes. This is totally baseless in view of the mutually agreed code of recognition and clear precedents.

 

If the votes polled by only NFTE and FNTO in 1st Verification are taken together, it comes to 48.73%. In 4th Verification, NFTE-FNTO combine has got only 38.35% votes. Even if votes polled by their other partners are ignored, it comes that NFTE-FNTO has lost as high as 10.38% votes. There was a concerted move to isolate BSNLEU this time. Perpetrators of this conspiracy have been defeated by the conscious employees. BSNLEU/ United Forum have increased its share of vote by 20% in comparison with 1st Verification. Considering the composition of United Forum, it may be humbly concluded that the major contribution to this advancement goes to BSNLEU.

 

In 1st Verification, newly formed BSNLEU alone has got more than 50% votes in 9 Circles and more than NFTE in another 4 Circles. This time, NFTE, along with FNTO and others, has got more than 50% votes in only 5 Circles and slender majority in another 5. This has shown the actual picture across the country.

 

FNTO wanted that this time others should vote in their name. NFTE assured them in this regard. But after FNTO deserted United Forum, NFTE backed out from the assurance. So, FNTO had to vote in NFTE’s name and symbol. Their sweet dream had belied even before the election. Now, after the results are announced, they are facing the second disappointment. They have lost the scope of being included in Councils at National, Circle and Local levels. Seats in various Councils were guaranteed to them had they remained within the United Forum. They are now repenting for their indiscreet decision. Nobody can help them to salvage from their own folly. However, their members have to think about the wisdom of remaining with them or otherwise. The same is about the members of NFTE.
